Professional Parents was created after my own experiences of struggling to balance family, work and a business. In 2009, I was working part time, finishing a degree and growing a small business…all while also being mama to Sophia (now 8) and Isabella (now 6). I was often asked “how do you do it all?” and certainly had days where I wondered the same (and here’s an article I wrote addressing just that!) I love my work and I love my kids – but sometimes…well often…. the two just don’t seem at all compatible.
After basing a final year university assignment on the concept of parents who balance business and family, I realised that it’s that the knowledge you aquire (via various resources) and the people you have around you make all the difference when trying to reach and maintain that elusive work life balance – or as I’ve renamed it, family work balance.
Though I certainly don’t have all the answers, I have been focussed on researching this topic for several years now. I’ve talked to hundreds of parents worldwide as well as living through it all myself on a daily basis! I’ve been at both ends of the spectrum – a full time stay at home mum as well as working full time. For me, I’m aiming for somewhere in the middle and each day, am searching for my OWN version of balance.
It’s my vision that this website will help you find YOUR family work balance through ideas, information and inspiration.
I’ve now completed my Bachelor of Business (double major marketing & tourism with distinction) through Open Universities Australia/Swinburne University. To add another challenge to the mix, in 2012, I relocated from Australia to The Netherlands. I began blogging about this and started a community to bring together those who, like me, are dual national Dutch Australians.
My business, Zestee, specialises in social media and marketing training and consulting and I particularly love helping other Professional Parents learn how to create and communicate their own unique message to the world. The Zestee Social Media School is perfect for those who would like to learn how to use social media to start and build their own business, and being online, you can fit it around the kids schedule!
In 2014, I began lecturing at The Hague University in Marketing Communications and am about to start a Masters in International Communication Management. A few hours a week, I also work as the editor of TheHagueOnLine.
Taking my girls to museums and learning about culture with them is one of my favourite pastimes and I blog about this over at Culture and Kids.
So yes, my life is a little crazy and I’m constantly learning from my experiences. I’d love to share them with you and hear about yours as well.
Please contact me, I’d love to hear from you!
