November Business Brainstorming Sunshine Coast

Another beautiful day on the Sunshine Coast at Strawberry Fields where a wonderful group of Professional Parents came together to share skills and brainstorm about business.

Renee spoke on relationships.  A few things to think about on this topic:

  • What is your natural relationship style – lots of connections or just a few?
  • Do you consciously choose the relationships in your life and business?
  • There are numerous systems out there to help you manage relationships such as CRMs (like, Capsule CRM, Microsoft Dynamics), iPhone iCloud address book (my new favourite which syncs with my laptop), Outlook, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and more.  What works for you?
  • Have you ever culled friends on Facebook?  How did you feel about this?

Jackie, editor of Kids on the Coast, shared 4 rules of engagement:

  1. Own your own engagement strategy.  Be clear on your goals: monthly, quarterly, annual and 5 yearly.  Have a strong, consistent personality/brand shine through in all of your communication platforms.  Embrace Facebook but remember you have limited control over changes to this platform,  while your website is yours forever.
  2. Be consistent, not just persistent.  Not too much selling on your Facebook page, but know your target audience and ask what they want.  Tools like poll daddy, zoomerang and survey monkey can help with this.
  3. Don’t overpromise.  Instead be honest and open, for example if you are not able to deliver your product or service at a particular time, share this with your followers rather than simply disappearing.
  4. Ensure return on engagement.  Listen, respond and learn.  Use measuring tools such as google searches on brand mentions, google alerts, social mention.  Mashable offers a number of metric tracking tools.  Monitor your sales and orders and which channels these are coming from.  The new “talking about this” on Facebook pages is another example of measuring engagement.  Blog comments, google analytics and downloads are some more.

Overall, set goals about what you want to achieve, make a plan and track the success.  Good marketing is a two way conversation.
